NAKAYA's urushi fountain pens are lacquered in Aizu, Kaga or Wajima. These pens are without clips.
A cap is screw-type. This model has no trim and no distinction between cap and barrel. This model is long and is supposed to be used without posting the cap when writing. As ebonite is a very light material it is possible to make the barrel thicker and longer. Therefore the balance point can be set easier to provide comfortable writing for everyone. "Tame" means "pool" and "nuri" refers to the lacquer coating process. You can actually see through the layers of clear urushi lacquer as if you were looking into a pool. When the process is finished, you can still see the base surface of red urushi. After this coating process, craftsmen polish the surface over and over by hand for months in order to attain greater transparency, allowing you to clearly see the underlying red usurshi surface.
A very populer 'Aka Tame Sukashi Ascending Dragon". A coiling dragon with long barrel matches well and a shape of trumpet, flat shape of stand are different feeling for each Maki-e. Some clouds are described on a flat surface and trumpet. and N'Hochu' (a ball) is described on a grip.
