NAKAYA
This is the 2nd version of "Dorsal Fin" (DFv2) model. Besides having the Fin-shaped on the cap, it is also featured on the barrel. The Fin-shaped design also act as an anti-roll stopper to prevent the pen from rolling off the table. DFv2 model is very difficult to produce. The artisan has to heap up the Fin-shaped using urushi and charcoal powder. Layer by layer, the artisan painstakingly build and heap up into the shape of a Fin. It is such a tedious and long process that Nakaya was forced to stop producing Dorsal Fin models in Feb 2015. The backlog was so bad that Nakaya couldn't fulfil the orders. It took Nakaya almost 18 months to clear almost all the backlog. It wasn't until July 2016 that Nakaya decided to accept Dorsal Fin model again. This time, Nakaya challenges itself to produce Silver (Tin) on the surface. The surface is very beautiful with a metallic feel. Since tin material is mixed on the surface, one can enjoy this pen like a metalic object. It is truly an artistic craftsmanship to decorate stone like appearance with silver (tin) on a pen. The shape of a cap and barrel look like a unique crescent when it is placed horizontally down and from some angle, it certainly looks like Katana shape.
