The Sailor 1911 Full-Size Rei Urushi-nuri Aomori Ryuumon-Nuri Fountain Pen is hand-finished by artist Aomori Saibou, who is a skilled craftsman in the traditional craft center of Ryuumon. Each pen is individually hand-finished by the artist, and no two pens will ever be exactly alike.
Ryumon-nuri is born from the technique of paper-making suminagashi and the technique of watercolor windsock, which is unique in the world of lacquer ware. In Aomori prefecture, which is a cold region, the lacquer does not dry well and the color does not come out well. Ryumon-nuri has a richly sensitive look while enhancing the originality of the overcoating of lacquer, which is a characteristic of changing coating. The Ryumon-nuri applied to this product is reminiscent of a marble pattern, and combined with the finish of domestic lacquer, it is a wonderful gem unique to lacquer.
Part of Sailor's Bespoke Collection, this is the second series of 1911 Full-Size Rei Urushi fountain pens, featuring natural urushi lacquer over an ebony wood cap and barrel. Each of the three pens in the series is finished by a different artist, and each artist is based in a different part of Japan and utilizes a technique for which that region is known.
Each pen ships in a specially decorated paulownia wood presentation box which includes a special pen pouch, cleaning cloth, and starter pack of ink cartridges along with the converter and an instruction booklet.
