Namiki Yukari Royale Peony & Butterfly Fountain Pen
This Namiki Yukari Royale Peony& Butterfly maki-e fountain pen was created by maki-e artisan Misa Seki. It features the togidashi-taka maki-e technique, depicting beautiful peony flowers and blue butterflies with raden inlaid into the wings.
Originally from China, peony has been used for its medicinal virtues since antiquity. The beauty of its petals and its sweet fragrance attract attention and demand admiration.
A peony plant produces glorious, stunning, large bloomed flowers and the bark of the plant was first harvested for medicinal use in Japan by Buddhist monks. However, the flower attracted more attention than the medicinal value.
Considered as the royal flower, it is often depicted in the world of art, and especially that of literature.
It will be pink for love and romance,
White for modesty and dignity,
Red for honor and respect,
Purple to celebrate friendship.
This Yukari Royale fountain pen features the taka maki-e technique for both peonies’ blooms and leaves. Both the flowers and the butterflies showcased are expressed through togidashi-taka maki-e techniques (applying a layer of lacquer, sprinkling gold or silver powder and drying with an additional lacquer layer to fix the powder).
