The Nakaya Piccolo Long Cigar in Shiro-urushi finish is being made available in limited amount.
Since ancient times, only black and vermilion have been used as color materials for lacquer, and there is no white color, so eggshells have been used instead. The "Shiro Urushi" this time are also based on that white color.
This Nakaya fountain pen is made of hand-turned ebonite hard rubber that is meticulously coated with Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree.
The process of collecting the Urushi and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes a minimum of three months or more to complete.
Screw type cap with no band, Cap, barrel and section are made of ebonite lacquerd with Wajima urushi. This model is long size and is supposed to be used without posting the cap when writing. As ebonite is a very light material it is possible to make the barrel thicker and longer. Therefore the balance point can be set easier to provide comfortable writing for everyone.
