NAMIKI
From a culture that has revered the art of writing for more than a thousand years, comes instruments that celebrate both writing and art. The Yukari Collection features writing instruments which are individually hand-crafted by the most revered of Japanese master artisans. Using the famed Maki-e technique which encompasses the creation of patterns and decorations with the use of sap from the Japanese lacquer tree (Urushi), gold and silver dust are sprinkled on the creation before it dries. The base of this work is commonly finished by lacquering and given a high gloss before further patterns are drawn. In 2009, Namiki presents four works of art from the Yukari collection, transforming traditional scenes from nature into striking fantasies. Namiki Autumn Leaves - A welcomed reprieve from the relentless heat of summer, falling amber-gold leaves and cool, crisp breezes signify a time for reflection amidst the abundance in which the season brings. Brilliantly-vermillion with speckles of gold dust, the Yukari Autumn Leaves is part magic, part fantasy and a true artistic masterpiece. Set against an awe inspiring backdrop of autumn in a province in Japan, the Yukari Autumn Leaves is in itself, a majestic work of art to behold. The Autumn Leaves makes its long-awaited appearance on the Yukari, and its simplistic beauty is best captured with the delicate Togidashi Maki-e technique.
