The Sailor 1911 Full-Size Rei Urushi-nuri Iwate Kinoshiru-nuri has been hand-finished by artist Natsumi Saitou, based in Iwate Prefecture on the east coast of Japan.

The northeastern part of the region, including the Appi district of Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture, has long been known as a major producer of lacquer ware. Since Abi-nuri is a lacquer base that is layered from the base to the top coat, it is characterized by its excellent hardness and robustness. Jusui-nuriKinoshiru coloring is a lacquer ware featuring a unique watermarking technique called "Mizu Kagami," which is a characteristic of Appi Urushi, which has been polished to give it a vivid color. The tree water coating applied to this product has created a unique and sensitive world view. The lacquer work is a graceful piece with a soft luster while making the best use of the essence of lacquering, such as applying domestic lacquer to the finish.
Each pen is individually hand-finished by the artist, and no two pens will ever be exactly alike.

Part of Sailor's Bespoke Collection, this is the second series of 1911 Full-Size Rei Urushi fountain pens, featuring natural urushi lacquer over an ebony wood cap and barrel. Each of the three pens in the series is finished by a different artist, and each artist is based in a different part of Japan and utilizes a technique for which that region is known.

Each pen ships in a specially decorated paulownia wood presentation box which includes a special pen pouch, cleaning cloth, and starter pack of ink cartridges along with the converter and an instruction booklet.
